In fall 1993, the La Porte Education Foundation awarded approximately $15,000 to its first 13 grant recipients. Over the years, LPEF has been able to provide a greater number of teachers and staff with grants; in 2009, 101 grants were distributed totaling more than $75,000.
Every year, hundreds of enthusiastic teachers and administrators in La Porte Independent School District apply for funding from LPEF. Applications for the next school year are posted on the LPEF Web site by May of the preceding school year. Grants are awarded in December with the goal that the funded program be initiated the next spring.
The Foundation usually has about three times the dollar amount in requests as it has money to fund. We also fund both small and large projects but if the funding request is for a larger amount, we will require more details to consider funding.
