The La Porte Education Foundation was born from the vision of former La Porte Superintendent of Schools Richard F. Hays who knew the importance of funding teachers’ creative educational ideas and scholarships for post-high school education.
Launched in 1993, the foundation was created as an avenue for enhancing and augmenting educational opportunities for students and teachers in the La Porte Independent School District. More than 80 citizens, businesses and industry members came together as our Founders. The citizens and business partners of La Porte support the idea that a quality educational system and a high quality of life go hand in hand. Their support of LPEF gives necessary supplemental funds to teachers that encourage creativity and innovation in the instruction of all students.
With each passing year, community support for the foundation's mission has grown and our ability to award an increasing number of grant requests has become a reality. Between 1994 and 2008, more than $600,000 was given to teachers through the grant process. These requests submitted to LPEF on paper have blossomed into new teaching strategies and methods that have improved the quality of education throughout La Porte ISD.
